[I call the league line but I always get the answering machine.]

In order to keep our cost low, PYSL does not have a dedicated office to conduct league related activities.  The league line rings at the home of the registrar.  Since PYSL board members are volunteers, these board members do have other jobs and may require them to work during the day.  But if you would kindly leave a clear voice message, your call will be returned.

Keep in mind that many of you are using cell phones, your messages might be incomplete or difficult to understand.  It is a good idea to leave your phone number more than once.  If we can’t make out the phone number on the recording, we can’t return your call.

Also, please don’t assume the registrar speaks Spanish, please leave your number and message in English.

[When are sign ups?]

Sign ups for the Spring season are usually held in January.

Sign ups for the Fall Season are usually held in March and April.

If you are a returning player, we will mail you a post card with the sign up information. Or you can check out our web site for the latest information.

[How long is the season?]

Fall Season - 12 games – Typically starts after Labor Day in September and finishes right before Thanksgiving

Spring Season - 8 games – Typically stars in March and finishes in May

[Where are the games played?  What about practices?]

Games are held at Domenic Massari Park and mostly held on Saturdays.  However, some Sunday games are expected.

Most teams practice at Domenic Massari Park and sometimes the overflow teams may also choose to practice at approved schools in the area.

[Who will be my child’s coach?  What is skills evaluation and where is it held?]

PYSL coaches draft players to form teams; draft usually occurs several weeks after registration process is completed.  Therefore, we could not tell you who your coach will be during the signup; we have to wait until after the draft to know which coach has picked your child.

During the draft, coaches in the same division will take turns picking players. Therefore, it is important for the coaches to be able to evaluate the players.  During the skills evaluation, each player is asked to dribble a soccer ball around cones and take a shot on goal.  This player then becomes a goalkeeper and the coach can evaluate how well the player can stop a shot from the next player.

The evaluations are held at Domenic Massari Park, usually field 6 or 7 (please check the field map for the correct field)

If a player does not attend skills evaluation, this player will not be eligible for the draft or retention.  This player will be placed on a team by hat picks or blind picks during the draft.

[Can I pick the team or coach for my child?]

You may not request a specific team or coach unless your child is being retained.  If a coach is planning to retain your child for the team, you will be asked to sign a retention form.  If a coach did not ask you to sign a retention form, then it means your child might not be playing with that particular coach.

During the Fall season, the coach may retain your child or pick the child by name during the draft.  For the Spring season, if your child is not retained, his/her name is picked out of a hat (blind pick).

Once a child is placed onto a team during the draft, the player must remain on that team for the duration of the season.  PYSL will not move players from one team to another for any reason with one exception, siblings drafted to different teams may be moved to the same team at the parents’ request provided the ages of the players qualify for the division.  For example, brothers were drafted in U12 and U10 divisions, the U10 player will be moved up to the U12 division but the U12 player will not be moved down to the U10 division.

[Why can't my son/daughter's best friend be on his/her team?]

PYSL only guarantees siblings to be on the same team, cousins, neighbors, ride shares, best friends etc. are not siblings and cannot be guaranteed to be on the same team.  However, you may request to have non-sibling players to be placed on the same team.  The coach may honor the request but PYSL does not require a coach to draft non-sibling players to be on the same team.

[Do coaches get paid?  What about the referees or PYSL Board members]

PYSL is entirely run by volunteers.  Coaches, team parents, referees or board members do not get paid.

With 500 players for the Spring and close to 1,000 players in the Fall, it takes a lot of time and effort to organize the seasons.  PYSL can always use volunteers.  If you are interested, simply approach any board members and we will be happy to share information with you on how you can help PYSL and the children.

[What is Live Scan?]

Live Scan is a process where digital finger prints are submitted to The California Department of Justice for criminal history background check.

All administrators (coaches, assistant coaches, team parents and board members) working with PYSL have to go through this background checking process before he/she is allowed to work with children.

[What is the supplemental insurance that is included in our registration fees?]

Supplemental insurance covers whatever your personal insurance doesn't when a player gets injured while participating in official PYSL games/practices.  If your child is injured, the coach needs to notify PYSL immediately in order to obtain the necessary insurance forms.

[What are the columns showing on the standings?]
