Retention Rules

1.                Each team is allowed 5 retention players, in divisions U11 through U19 and 3 retention players in divisions U7 through U10.

    1. Under 18 Boys Division is allowed up to four (4) 16, 17 or 18 year old players (any combination)

    1. Under 18 Girls Division is allowed up to four (4) 16, 17, or 18 year old players (any combination)

    1. Under 18 Co-ed Division is allowed up to four (4) 16, 17, or 18 year old players (any age/gender combination)

2.                In order for a player to be eligible for retention, the following conditions must be met:

    1. Player must be registered in the league

    1. Physically attend skills evaluation.  If a player does not attend skills evaluation, the player may not be retained.

    1. Parent or legal guardian and coaches MUST sign the retention form

3.                Coaches must retain their own child.  If a coach does not wish to have his/her own child on their teams then they don’t have to retain their child.  However, this child will not be placed on their team under any circumstances for the seasonal year and this includes the draft.  If a coach receives their child during the blind pick session of the draft, the name will be returned to the hat and the coach will draw another player.  This process will continue if the child is again drawn.

4.                Siblings:  If a coach wishes to retain a player who has a sibling in the same division; the parent must be made aware that if both players are not retained, the none-retained sibling will not be allowed on the same team for any reason this seasonal year.  If the parents wish the siblings to be on the same team, each sibling counts as a separate retention and will require a separate retention form.

5.                No retention forms will be accepted prior to the first skills evaluation and retention forms must be turned into the League Registrar within one half-hour (30 minutes) after the close of the last skills evaluation.  The League Registrar shall sign, date and time all retention forms.  ALL FORMS ARE VOID AFTER THE ONE HALF-HOUR (30 minutes) DEADLINE.

6.                If a player is retained by multiple coaches in the same division, the coach who turns in the retention form first based on date/time will retain that player.  Other retention forms for this player are void and no replacement/substitution retention will be allowed.

7.                Retention forms are not valid until processed and verified by the League Registrar.  The registrar shall check all forms for siblings and any discrepancies.  If the registrar finds any discrepancies or the retentions are in violation of the established retention rules, the retentions shall be made ineligible and no replacement/substitution retentions will be allowed.

8.                Any player who does not physically attend skills evaluation is ineligible for the draft or retention.  This player will be a blind pick (hat pick) during the draft session.

9.                The Board of Directors will make all final decisions as to whether a player attended skills evaluation or not based upon the evaluation sheets that the Board of Directors fill out during the skills evaluation sessions.

10.           Any coach not attending the skills evaluation must contact the Head Coach and send a representative to the skills evaluation.  Board of Directors evaluation sheets will not be available to coaches who do not follow this rule.

11.           For the purpose of the skills evaluation, draft and retention, cousins, uncles, aunts, mothers, fathers, husbands and wives and significant others are not siblings.  Brothers and sisters are siblings including step and foster with proper paperwork verified by the league.

These rules are established to ensure fairness to everyone.  Under no circumstances will any exceptions be made.  Please read and understand these rules.

For clarification, please contact the league at 661.533.BALL(2255) or email the registrar. Please remember, the retention forms must be turned in 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second skills evaluation.  You may download the form below and get the paperwork started.

Thank you,

PYSL
